What information do I need for debt advice?

If you choose to be referred, you will be asked about your income, household expenditure and details of your creditors (the people or organisations you owe money to). This information helps the authorised firm understand your financial situation and explain the options that may be available to you.

As part of the assessment, a soft credit search may be carried out to help build a fuller picture of your circumstances. A soft search does not affect your credit score and is not visible to other lenders. You will be informed before any search is undertaken.

Any recommendation will depend on your individual circumstances, and there is no obligation to proceed with any solution.

What if I don't know who I owe money to?

If you’re unsure about all of your outstanding debts, there are free credit reference agencies that may help you access your credit report and identify lenders recorded there.

If you choose to be referred, an authorised firm may also carry out a soft credit search as part of their assessment process, with your permission. A soft search does not affect your credit score and is not visible to other lenders.

Not all debts appear on a credit report, so you may still need to provide additional information to ensure a full and accurate review of your circumstances.

What debt solutions are available?

Once you have completed our free online enquiry form or spoken with a member of our team, we will gather some basic information about your financial circumstances. This helps us determine whether it may be appropriate to refer you to an FCA-authorised debt advice firm for a full assessment.

If you choose to proceed, the authorised firm will review your income, expenditure and debts and explain the options that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Common debt solutions may include:

  • Debt Management Plans (DMPs)

  • Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs)

  • Bankruptcy

  • Debt Relief Orders (DROs)

If you live in Scotland, additional options may include:

  • Protected Trust Deeds

  • Debt Payment Plans under the Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS)

All debt solutions have eligibility criteria and may not be suitable for everyone. The risks, benefits and any associated fees will be explained before you decide whether to proceed.
